Unequal human rights and reduced violence. In recent years, I have paid little attention to the issue of violence. But in the early hours of June 7, a piece of news brought the issue back to my attention. It was a barbecue restaurant in Tangshan city, where four girls with ordinary dress sat down to eat barbecue. Because they refused sexual harassment from several men, they were beaten by a group of men, including dragging, kicking the head and a series of hated behaviors. Several women were admitted to the ICU that night.Of course, violence is not only more common among women, but also among children. These are all vulnerable groups. The perpetrators are usually strong men.So my topic this time is reducing violence. This is a question that every abuser should ponder.
Domestic Violence – Love Should Not Hurt
Title: Domestic Violence – Love Should Not Hurt
PHASE 1- Observation
This poster features a very striking woman, her face is covered in bruises, her eyes and mouth are also swollen. From the expression on her closed eyes, it could be seen that she was not only scared but also in pain. Her hair is very messy, but most notably the purple bruises on her eyes are in the shape of a heart. The tones of the entire poster are black and white, which gives a very depressing feeling. Her face is on the upper left of the poster, but the direction she is facing is also written in the lower right corner of the poster, like her voice - Love Should Not Hurt.
PHASE 2- Analysis
In this poster, a woman's face is used with a brief text below to balance the picture. And the direction women are facing is exactly the word below, which is very similar to the voice of women. The entire tone of the poster is black and white, but the only thing that stands out is a purple heart, which is like a bruise on a woman's face.To accentuate the theme even more -Love Should Not Hurt. The centerpiece of the vision is this prominent purple heart. The black and white theme perfectly highlights the purple heart.
PHASE 3- Interpretation
Domestic Violence – Love Should Not Hurt. This is the title of the original author. Domestic violence is a pattern of actions that heavily involve the abuse of one person in a relationship against the other. Physical abuse or aggression, threats of such physical damage, emotional. But this happens all the time around us.I often see related reports from the news, including many related movie works, and I am very afraid of related low pressure. I am even more saddened by women and children who are unable to protect themselves. The first time I saw this work, I felt the pain and despair of this woman. Many people would say that the emergence of domestic violence is only because the husband disciplines the wife or the parents discipline the children, but everyone ignores the problem that everyone has human rights, and care or education should not be the starting point and excuse for venting emotions and launching violence.
IDEA EXPLORATION & DESCRIPTION
In this part, I decided to design my poster in black and white according to many anti-violence posters. Meanwhile, the main body of posters is women and children who have suffered violence. At first, I thought my main body would use the injured face of the girl in tangshan, but I thought it would be more meaningful to replace the main body of my poster with the representation of vulnerable groups, women and children. In the initial conception, I wanted to directly use the pictures of people who were abused on the Internet, but after observing many works, I thought I should use some pictures that I could take myself. Like these pieces, I wanted to create in the same contrasting and symmetrical way.
Sketches
For this sketch, I will use photos to make it. The main tone is black and white, the left half of the face is a woman's face, and the right is a child's face. At the same time, the upper half of their face will be the face of violence, in addition to bruises, tears and fear of the eyes. The lower half of their face is a happy smile. That would represent two different kinds of encounters. The bottom sentence is that we like smile.
sketch 1
This picture uses the same girl, but two completely different faces, one full of tears and fear. One is a confidently dressed and beautiful face. The last word is WE WANT TO BE PROTECTED AND BE LOVED.sketch 2
This one uses a girl sitting in the corner, with injuries on her body and face, and the most important thing is the close-up of tears on her face. The slogan is NO MORE HART! And the last sentence is WE WANT TO BE PROTECTED AND LOVED.
sketch 3
Processing
I used the photos taken to matting later to make posters. The first photo I took was too bright and well lit to match the background and content, so I adjusted the exposure and contrast.

I tried three different contrast and brightness photos before I decided to use this last shade.
FINAL WORK
final work 1/7/2022
Everyone wants to be loved and protected. The two girls in the poster are two completely different lives, which makes their state also have different changes. Her eyes are blank, her face is covered in cuts and bruises and tears are still in her eyes, while the love-wrapped girl looks good and smiles confidently for the camera. Domestic violence is a serious problem that many people ignore in real life. Many people hurt others with the reason of love, while the injured people are explained because of love, which is very incorrect. This poster hopes that every girl can bravely say no to this kind of abnormal love.
FEEDBACK
Ms Jinchi wanted me to explore more, do more sketches, and explore color. Try using dark background colors.
REFLECTION
In this assignment, I learned to analyze other people's works. In the step of work analysis, I think design elements and basic principles are very important. This is the learning result of a semester, which is also very helpful for my own design works. After analyzing other people's works, I can learn and imitate some basic design principles used by other designers to design my works, including combining some design elements, which is obvious for my improvement.
final reflection
In this module, I learned about design principles, including many different ways of symmetry. The part THAT I enjoy the most is when I make clip art through photos, which I find very interesting, looking at a lot of photos, I can feel a lot of feelings that I didn't feel before. The biggest headache for me is that sometimes WHEN I have no inspiration, I have no idea what I want to do. At this time, I will look for some works with the same content to appreciate and feel. In the study of this module, I can feel that I will slowly use some simple design principles in my design works, but it is a pity that I did not get rid of the habit of being lazy, and I did not plan my own time to do corresponding things, which also led to my homework time is not enough sometimes. But I still think the tempo of this module is relatively fast.
